Coaching and Supporting UDL Implementation: Part I & II

In this two-part course, coaches, administrators, and leaders will start their journey in universal design for learning through exploration, application, and discussion. As learners transition from level I to level II, they’ll dive deeper into the implementation of UDL to uncover strategies and techniques to create a lasting impact in their organizations.

Part I: Coaching and Supporting UDL Implementation

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a framework that recognizes all learners are varied and provides flexibility in design to optimize learning outcomes. As instructional coaches, teacher leaders, and/or administrators, it is our job to support educators as they work towards fully implementing UDL into their practice. Instructional leaders and coaches play an important role in this work because we support, encourage, and motivate educators as they integrate UDL in their classrooms and schools. Participants in this course will explore the UDL Guidelines and take a deep dive into the implementation of UDL, focusing on creating innovative learning environments for teachers that can be scaled to improve the outcomes of all students within the district, developing PLC’s rooted in UDL, supporting the work in classrooms, and staying true to a vision of UDL.

Objectives

As a result of completing this course, participants will:

  • Establish a solid understanding of UDL through exploration, application, and discussion.
  • Gain confidence in leading others in growing their UDL knowledge through lesson design, professional development opportunities, coaching, and other interactions with colleagues.
  • Develop essential tools to build capacity for UDL implementation at the site or district level.

Part II: Coaching and Supporting UDL Implementation

In this Level II course, you will build on the learnings and skills introduced at the Level I course. This course is ideally suited for educational leaders, coaches, and administrators that are serious about implementing Universal Design for Learning (UDL). Participants in this course will dive deeper into the implementation of UDL through thoughtful analysis of system drivers to support adaptive change, enhance their study of best practices to support implementation, and advance the application of key learnings to their organization’s current journey to UDL.

Objectives:

As a result of completing this course, participants will:

  • Deepen their understanding of UDL implementation through exploration, application, and discussion.
  • Create a vision for UDL implementation and a clear plan to shift organizational policies and practices to reflect the core values of UDL.
  • Develop strategies to support all UDL implementers, with a focus on those resistant to change.
  • Explore implementation best practices for creating a lasting impact through adaptive change.
