As educators, we are tasked with helping our students develop academic, social, emotional and behavioral skills in order to become successful members of our community. As future leaders, our students need to be successful using the 21st Century skills: collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity as they navigate and learn to become global citizens. No longer can educators focus just on academics and test scores. They need to know how to support the whole child in the development of social, emotional, behavioral, and academic skills.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is strongly connected to social emotional learning (SEL). Research shows that when we focus on helping students identify and regulate their emotions, understand how to interact in social situations, and persevere when they encounter difficulties or disappointments, they are more likely to excel academically and thrive.

In this course, you will learn practical strategies on how to create a social emotional learning environment and incorporate UDL strategies where your students will become expert learners-emotionally self regulated, engaged, purposeful, motivated, knowledgeable and goal-directed members of the classroom and community.
